Hello
friends. Our water temp slower than normal rise has fish in all
parts of the water column. We have taken some great post spawn
smallies, as you see on the front page, on north Kentucky, and
are still catching bedders on mid Barkley. Guide Carl Benson had
a guest catch a 6 pound largemouth on a river ledge today, and
guide Jackie Allen had a client bag a 5.5 pounder in buckbrush.
The fish just seem to be in all phases, depending on where you
look. We haven't had any crappie trips lately, but bluegill and
redear bite is unreal. The size and quantity is simply
incredible. We are using fly bugs on 1/32 ounce heads along with
worms and simply having a ball, except for the cleaning. If a
fish fry is in your future, you need to find a grass edge and
get some of the tastiest filets in the lake.
The
Largemouth bite continues to be good all over the lake. Texas
rig plastics for the shallows, with topwater mixed in, and
cranks for the ledge fish. We are catching a good number of
smallies around vertical rock as they transition to the river
for summer.
The
crappie bite is scattered at best. We been having to much
success with the gills to try them, but check mid range brush
for post spawn gatherers.
As we
have said, the bluegill we are catching are simply huge. We are
picking them up near grass edges in the 3-6 ft range as they
continue to move up to beds. For some reason the redear bite is
no where near as consistent as last year at this time, but we
are managing a few as we fish for bluegill.
The
whites and yellows are moving from the creek backs out to
the main river. We got into a school of feeders that were taking
DT 16s on a ledge. These fish are a blast to catch and they will
soon be gathering in huge schools to feed. Remember, current
plays a key role in their feeding habits. Roostertails, In
lines, little georges, just about anything that flashes will get
the attention of a feeding white.
Get out
there and have some fun, be careful as the lake traffic
continues to increase and the the weather warms.
